Artist Spotlight: Emancipator

Clubhead TV shines the light on Ambient music pioneer and multi instrumentalist Emancipator

When you think of artists at the top of the Ambient music movement, Portland’s Doug Appling who we know as Emancipator is at the top of that list.

Celebrating 10 years of hard work on his label, Emancipator has re-released his Maps & Father King’ EP to celebrate the 10th year of that critically acclaimed debut LP which you can enjoy below.

As head of his Loci records imprint, he has announced a massive tour featuring his label mates including Tor, Edamame, and Lapa. This trio of artists represents the essence of what his label is all about. They embody the essence of musical balance between organic and digital that the label is widely known for.

Emancipator curates every Loci signing, and each artist stylistically hones in on their own brew of melodic downtempo, instrumental hip hop, and electronica. Etheric melodies, immaculately smooth samples, and addictive drum beats are the norm at Loci Records, as the imprint’s talented artists captivate a diverse audience across the globe.

Edamame just dropped this breathtaking mix featuring the Loci artists and it gives you a good idea of what to expect from this tour, which btw has been selling out (Vancouver, Seattle, NY, Boston, Denver etc)

Check out the mix and tour dates below. Make it a point to be at this show if it’s in your neck of the woods. We will certainly be there for the Chicago show.
