Michael Brun Re-Works Ben Alessi’s ‘U’

Michael Brun’s penchant for a pop-tinged yet danceable take has come to full fruition on his latest work, a new take on New York singer/songwriter Ben Alessi’s debut single ‘U’. The original, premiered via Billboard, has been transformed into an upbeat, melancholic yet frantic track, entrenched around a warm and bright melody and pitched down vocals.

Michael Brun x Ben Alessi – U is a continuation of a discography that has dynamically shifted for Brun, sitting very much in the world of pop leaning, full bodied electronic productions. His last effort, “Jupiter”, is a catchy rendezvous between pop and future bass, and ‘U’ builds upon that premise. The original version of ‘U’ is the first single for Ben Alessi, and will appear on his forthcoming EP, due out in early 2017.

The song is the latest evocative single for Brun in 2016, which has seen the Haitian producer release a handful of original singles including “Jupiter”, “Wherever I Go,” and “Summer Dreams”; in addition to remixes of The Ready Set’s “Good Enough,” and Maxwell’s “Lake by the Ocean.” Recently, he contributed one of the lead singles for Netflix original film XOXO, “All I Ever Wanted,” which to date has amassed over 5.6 million streams on Spotify.

Michael Brun has honed in on a blend of wide-ranging influences, from the percussion-heavy Rara and Afrogroove influences of his native Haiti to disco and synth pop, to become one of dance music’s most well-regarded rising stars. Not only has he remixed the likes of Tiesto, Calvin Harris, Armin van Buuren, and Alicia Keys; he’s also collaborated with everyone from Dirty South to Rune RK to The Ready Set.

Michael continued his trajectory into the world of pop-leaning productions in 2016, starting the year with his career-defining song, “Wherever I Go,” a collaborative effort with the students of music school The Audio Institute in Haiti. Featuring numerous Haitian artists like BélO and J. Perry, ‘Wherever I Go’ was a cultural hit for Brun, amassing millions of streams as well as creating revenue for the Audio Institute with the track’s proceeds. In July 2016, his sold-out Wherever I Go festival, featuring both international and local talent, went on to fund 33 scholarships for The Audio Institute’s class of 2017.

Following the Wherever I Go project, Michael produced “All I Ever Wanted,” one of the lead singles for Netflix original film XOXO, an ensemble, coming-of-age story about a group of early 20-somethings on a crazy adventure to the biggest EDM festival in America, XOXO. Featured in the movie trailer, “All I Ever Wanted” sits second on the tracklist behind Galantis’s lead single ‘Make Me Feel’.
